The importance of governance for your charity

The recent launch of Inspiring Impact – The Code of Good Impact Practice aims to change the way the UK voluntary sector thinks about impact and make high-quality impact measurement the norm for charities and social enterprises by 2022; thus promoting the role of quality and measurement within the industry.

The role of good governance within any charitable organisation is ultimately to place an emphasis on accountability, measurability and transparency of performance. For governance to be effective it needs to run throughout your charity at all levels from the board down.

The effect of governance will impact on:

  • The public’s willingness to donate.
  • What key stakeholders think of you.
  • The effectiveness of your marketing communications.
  • How your charity is positioned within the market.
